What pot lights cost
Pot lights start from $89 per light with a 4-light minimum. Prices are labour only, with materials extra unless noted.
What can add to the cost: finished ceilings with no attic access, long wire runs, adding a new switch location, or ceilings with joists in awkward spots. You always get a firm price before I start.
How a clean install works
- Plan the layout first, so lights are evenly spaced and clear of joists and ducts.
- Use slim LED wafer lights in finished ceilings. They need only a small round hole, so there's very little patching.
- Use fixtures rated for insulation contact (IC) and air-tight where the ceiling is below an insulated attic.
- Pair the lights with an LED-compatible dimmer so they dim smoothly without flicker or buzzing.
Planning tips
- Spacing: a common rule of thumb is to space lights about half the ceiling height apart. For an 8 ft ceiling, that's about 4 ft between lights.
- Colour: warm white (2700K to 3000K) suits living rooms and bedrooms. Neutral white (3500K to 4000K) works well in kitchens, laundry rooms and garages. Many slim LEDs let you pick the colour with a small switch.
- Keep lights about 2 to 3 ft from walls so the room doesn't feel dark around the edges.
- Think about zones. Separate switches for the kitchen island, the main area and accent lights give you more control.
